Pleasant Memories
I was going to do this post back in May, but it got put aside when we had the car accident. Then, because I often have to do things when I'm thinking about them, I did a post about giving blood and receiving a box of delicious thin mint cookies. Not just any old thin mints, these were Girl Scout Thin Mints. I think they should sell them year round, but I guess they would loose their novelty if they did.
In any event, I'm now getting around to writing about our oldest daughter, Jen's visit at the end of May. It was such a pleasant trip, and to add to our pleasure she brought us some halibut from Hoonah, part of which she bought, and part was given to her by some friends in Hoonah, Julie Jackson and Denise Grey. A huge shout out of thanks to the two of them for their extreme generosity. We've enjoyed several meals so far, and to say the least, it has been delightful, a real blessing to have.
Jen likes to be on the go, so I went with Autumn and her to the Eklutna Tail Race, a beautiful body of glacier fed water that is stocked with salmon. Unfortunately it was too early to fish for them when Jen was here, and the temps were uncommonly cool for May. We took along Autumn and Aaron's new dog, Missy, and all of us had a grand time. We're fortunate to have a good relationship with our adult children and enjoy their company whenever we're together.
Jen had bought a fishing license, and we didn't want it to go to waste, so we went down to Wasilla Lake and tried our luck there. I had bought some nightcrawlers, but I guess even the fish thought it was too chilly to chow down, so instead we froze our buns off while an artic wind blew. Even so, we were fishing, so as they say, a bad day fishing is better than a good day working.
One thing that the car accident has shown me is that life is uncertain. We can be going along minding our own business when life throws us a curve ball. There are no guarantees in this life. In the time that's left to each of us, we need to get our priorities right. Enjoy time with your family and friends. Make good memories. Some day they may be all you have left.
